Monel Alloy 400 Flanges / UNS N04400 / DIN 2.4360

The pressure classes range from Monel UNS N04400 Class 150 Flanges to Monel UNS N04400 Class 2500 Flanges, and PN6 to PN64. Depending on the class, the pressure is lowered. Alloy 400 flanges are made of 63% nickel and 28% copper, which makes them stronger. 

A Special Type of Alloy 400 Orifice Flange is used to connect pipes with orifices. The material has a yield strength of 195MPa and a tensile strength of 480MPa. The nominal bore size of the flanges is governed by different standards. Monel DIN 2.4360 Blind Flanges with diameters ranging from 12 to 48 inches are included in this standard.

In critical and high-performance applications, Monel 400 is a popular, high-performance nickel-copper alloy. Among its many characteristics, Monel 400® is extremely strong, highly resistant to acidic and alkaline environments, and extremely ductile and thermally conducting. Cold-working at temperatures between subzero and 1,000°F (538°C) is required to harden the alloy.

 Contains the same amount of nickel and copper as naturally-occurring nickel ore found in Ontario, Canada's Sudbury mines, Monel 400 is considered a puritan alloy.

The marine environment requires applications to be resistant to saltwater. After all, marine water contains a concentration of salt of 3.5%, which is enough to corrode ordinary steel if they are not treated with protective surfaces. Temper improves both the strength and impact strength of the alloy. Although the alloy's high copper content would indicate it would be vulnerable to acid attacks, the Class 150 Monel 400 Rtj Flange is resistant to both hydrochloric acid and hydrofluoric acid when de-aerated. Due to its copper chemistry, Monel 400 Blind Flange should not be used in environments with ammonia or nitric acid solutions.
