The melting point of the metal is 1350 degrees Celsius, and its density is 7.95 grams per cubic centimeter.

As the name suggests, 904L stainless steel sheets are made of austenitic steel with a low carbon content that is not stabilized. These sheets are resistant to crevice and stress corrosion cracking due to steen present. They are non magnetic and easily formed and weldable. It is a superaustenitic stainless steel sheet designed to withstand moderate to high corrosion rates in a wide range of environments due to its superaustenitic composition. In addition to chromium and nickel content, molybdenum and copper are added to provide excellent corrosion resistance. As a result of nickel 25% and molybdenum 4.5%, ASTM B625 UNS N08904 provides good corrosion resistance against chloride stress, cracking and pitting, compared to 316L and 317L. An optimum choice for containing dilute sulfuric acids in out-of-doors environments, 904l stainless steel plate has excellent resistance to inorganic acids such as hot phosphoric acid. It is easily welded and processed by standard fabrication processes. It is relatively ductile and can be formed easily. When compared to standard 304/304L grades, molybdenum and nitrogen provide more powerful processing equipment, which may be necessary. Due to the presence of high amounts of nickel in its composition, ASTM A240 type 904l is highly resistant to warm seawater and chloride attack. The high resistance against stress corrosion cracking has been attributed to the high nickel content in its composition. It is also resistant to sulphuric acid and other reducing agents in both aggressive and mild conditions, thanks to the addition of copper. 1.4539 plate material offers good resistance to oxidation. 

Despite this, the structural stability of this material can be collapsed at high temperatures, especially those above 400°C. ASTM A240 UNS N08904 can be heat-treated at 1090 to 1175°C, followed by rapid cooling.

The 1.4539 sheet is used in oil refinery equipment, pulp and paper processing industries, gas scrubbing plants, etc. Thermal treatment can harden it.
