DETAILED INFORMATION
It can be cold worked to get good strength and corrosion resistance in stainless steel 301 flanges made of chromium nickel austenitic stainless steel, which is made up of a stainless steel with good oxidation resistance. It is important to note that there are different types of flanges, such as welding neck flanges, slip on flanges, blind flanges, socket weld flanges and so on. Flanges such as these adhere to the ASTM A182 standard, which can be found on the ASTM website. In addition to ASTM A182, ASME, ANSI and DIN standards, the ASTM A182 F301 Flanges can also be manufactured in different dimensions.
It is important to note that the pressure classes vary from 150 to 2500 for various dimensions of the flanges. They range in size from 12 inches to 48 inches, while the thickness of the walls varies depending on the standard. As the name suggests, this blind flange is used to close pipelines. An example of a blind flange is a butterfly flange, which is one of the many types of blind flanges available. This flange is suitable for all kinds of SS UNS S30100 pipes, so you can use it with any of them. There is also a difference between the type of face on the flanges, as there are flat faces, raised faces, and ring-type joints. Besides threaded flanges, there are also forged flanges, bolted flanges, screwed flanges, and plate flanges. Reducing flanges made from AISI 301 Stainless Steel are designed with 16% chromium, 8% nickel, carbon, silicon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur, and nitrogen in the composition of the steel. There is a minimum tensile strength of 125ksi and a minimum yield strength of 75ksi for this material. A quarter hardened flange is stronger than a half hardened flange, and a full hardened flange is stronger than a quarter hardened flange. In this case, the 301 SS SORF flange is a slip on flange with a raised face. It has the capability of allowing the pipe to be slipped on it and the raised face provides an additional connection surface for bolt holes to be drilled. Oil and gas industries, as well as petroleum and petrochemical industries, are the main industries where these flanges are used.
GENERAL PROPERTIES:-
The stainless steel grade 301 is a common austenitic stainless steel that offers good corrosion resistance and a high carbon content that allows for cold working of it to a variety of tempers. This product can be obtained in different hardnesses, such as 1/4 hard, 1/2 hard, and full hard.
COROSION RESISTANCE:-
- In applications that involve mildly corrosive conditions at ambient temperatures, this material is able to withstand exposure to mildly corrosive conditions.
- Designed to work outdoors, in industrial settings, on the ocean, and in mild chemical environments
- There is a risk of carbide precipitation during welding, so it is not suitable for certain applications
- Stainless Steel grade 304 has a similar resistance to corrosion
HEAT RESISTANCE:-
- In a continuous process, the temperature can be exposed continuously to a maximum of 1600°F (871°C) without appreciable scaling.
- The maximum temperature that can be reached during intermittent exposure is approximately 1450°F (788°C).
- There is an oxidation weight gain of 10mg/cm2 in temperatures over 1600°F (871°C) in 1,000 hours, with an oxidation weight gain of 10mg/cm2.
HEAT TREATMENT:-
- The solution is treated by heating it to 1010-1120°C and letting it cool rapidly to initiate the annulation process.
- For intermediate annealing, you should use the low end of the range.
- There is no thermal treatment that can be applied to this grade in order to harden it.
COLD WORKING:-
- From cold rolling and roll forming, it hardens very rapidly, creating a material with very high strength.
- Due to its high work hardening rate, austenitic stainless steels such as this are more difficult to work than other stainless steels.
- A strain-hardened austenitite steel undergoes a partial transformation during this process into a martensitite steel as a result of the strain.
- There is still a possibility of severe cold deformation to occur due to residual ductility.
- Cold rolling of grade 301 produces a strong magnetic property.
WELDING:-
- To ensure maximum corrosion resistance, it is necessary to anneal the metal
- Due to its high work hardening rate, austenitic stainless steels such as this are more difficult to work than other stainless steels.
- To ensure maximum corrosion resistance, it is necessary to anneal the metal
- As a result of welding and postweld annealing, it will be possible to remove both the high strength induced by cold rolling and the welding.
- Cold rolled 301 components are commonly assembled using spot welding as a means of joining them together.
- In the area of the weld that is affected by heat, the material will lose its temper.
