It is an austenitic stainless steel alloy that is titanium stabilized and belongs to the group of austenitic stainless steel alloys that exhibit good corrosion resistance. When exposed to temperatures ranging from 427 degree C to 816 degree C for a period of time, these specimens have a good resistance to intergranular corrosion. In addition, this material has the ability to resist the precipitation of chromium carbide. In addition to their high creep strength and stress rupture strength, these flanges are resistant to oxidation up to 816 degrees Celsius. As well as being tough at low temperatures, it also exhibits good corrosion resistance. In addition to this alloy, UNS S321109 is also referred to as this alloy.

The technology is designed to provide enhanced creep resistance and higher strength at temperatures above 537 degrees Celsius. In most of the cases the carbon content of flanges enables dual certifications. These are not treatable with the heat treatment process; however, the cold working process is induced for extra hardening. With all standard welding processes, these can be easily welded.

These have excellent machinability, fabricability, formability, and workability qualities, which make them ideal for low-cost fabrication applications. In addition to its high cold-work hardening rate, it is machinable at low speeds, feeds, and cut depths because of the cold work hardening rate. There are several characteristics of these flanges that make them quite ductile and easy to form. A temperature range between 1149 and 1260 degrees C is used for hot-forming. The fabricated products are then water quenched to retain their mechanical properties. This also re-attains the maximum corrosion resistance.
