AL6XN Pipe Fittings: What Are They? 

In the alloy AL-6XN, nickel, chromium, and molybdenum make up a significant portion. In the alloy, nickel makes up 24 percent, chrome makes up 22 percent, and molybdenum makes up 6.3%, with traces of nitrogen as well. The UNS designation for AL6XN is N08367, which is a super austenitic stainless steel with low carbon content.

Despite its high nickel and molybdenum content, AL-6XN is resistant to chloride stress-corrosion cracking. Because of the molybdenum content, it also resists chloride pitting. In addition to increasing pitting resistance, nitrogen also gives the stainless steel a higher strength rating than typical austenitic stainless steels in the 300 series, so it can often be used in thinner sections. Due to its nitrogen content, AL6XN has a higher tensile strength than common austenitic stainless steels, while maintaining its high ductility and impact strength.
